Dr. Stewart Remembers Her First Chiropractic Adjustment

Wilderness Family Chiropractic Chiropractor, Christine Stewawrt

Dr. Christine Stewart

“Simply put, I was a skeptic,” remembers Dr. Christine Stewart. “I had never heard of chiropractic before and didn’t know of any friends or family who went to a chiropractor. Then I met friends in college who were planning to go to chiropractic school because of the amazing health recoveries they experienced through chiropractic care. I decided to go to a chiropractor (even though I did not have any pain) just to find out for myself.”

“It was amazing,” continues Dr. Stewart. “I’ll never forget that first adjustment. I remember feeling as if a weight was lifted from my shoulders. I couldn’t believe how great I felt and how many people I met in college who had similar stories of greater health and well being. I developed a strong passion and desire to help people achieve optimal health through natural means. That’s when I decided I wanted to become a chiropractor.

Chiropractic Education

Dr. Stewart began her pre-chiropractic education at Greenville Technical College after completing her AA degree at PHCC. She studied basic science courses such as organic chemistry, biology, physics as well as anatomy and physiology courses.

After completing her studies there, she was accepted at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. During her four years at Sherman College, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, x-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Sherman Chiropractic Health Center. She completed her externship program with Dr. Johnston in Gainesville, Florida. After graduating with honors in 1998, Dr. Stewart moved to the Fredericksburg area to establish her practice.

“We love skeptics,” smiles Dr. Stewart. “I still remember the concerns and apprehensions I had when I went to the chiropractor for the first time. So we make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and attempt to over communicate. Patients appreciate that.”

“We also love helping families. There is a deeply fulfilling aspect in the office when children climb up on the chiropractic table to get ‘adjusted’. They seem to instinctively get the big idea that health comes from the inside out.”

Dr. Stewart, Personally

Dr. Stewart enjoys her life with her husband Joe and 17 year old son Grant who has never been vaccinated. (If that sounds interesting, be sure to ask Dr. Stewart to explain.) Together they spend time participating in school activities, church, basketball, baseball, family gatherings, camping and the beach.

Dr. Stewart makes it a priority to stay in touch with local colleagues weekly to share news, events and of course a chiropractic adjustment. She realizes the importance of setting an example by working out in a gym 2-3 times per week, doing yoga and eating healthy foods. “My approach to health is based on the philosophy that the body is designed to heal itself. So I don’t readily take antibiotics, pain relievers or receive vaccinations. Instead, I do whatever I can to support the immune system using vitamins, juicing, and homeopathic remedies to achieve health naturally.”

In her spare time, Dr. Stewart also enjoys running, gardening, and reading a good book!
